How to Sign Animals in American Sign Language (ASL)

To sign "animal" in ASL, make two bent hands with spread fingers and move them up and down in front of your chest like a walking creature. Different animals have their own special signs based on how they look - rabbits are shown with long ears, birds with beaks opening and closing, cats with whiskers, and dogs by patting your leg like you're calling one over. Your face needs to show the animal's size and how it moves when you sign about them. These signs come from how people have watched and dealt with animals over time, which helps new learners remember them easily.
