How to Sign "Church" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, "church" is signed by joining both hands together with fingers interlocked, palms facing each other, forming a steeple shape. The hands move up a bit at chest level. This sign came from looking at how old churches were built with their pointy roofs and copying that shape with hands. You can use it to mean an actual church building or when talking about church services and faith. The sign stays mostly the same in formal church settings, but some deaf communities might sign it a little differently.
