How to Sign "Near" in American Sign Language (ASL)

In ASL, "near" is signed by holding both hands in front of your body, palms facing each other about shoulder-width apart. Bring your hands closer. This movement shows how near or far something is by changing how close your hands get to each other at the end. Move them close. The sign works for both places and time, so you can use it to say something is physically close or will happen soon. Point first to show where things are, then make the "near" sign.
